Daimler Stops Developing All-in Electrified Fuel Engines
According to foreign media reports, Daimler executives revealed that they will stop future research and development of fuel engines. From now on, the company will focus on the development of electric vehicles. The plan also means that Mercedes-Benz will start to adopt the same strategy.
The future will be the
era of electric vehicles, and everyone has realized this, and Daimler is no
exception. So they decided to develop only electric vehicles in the future.
Daimler has previously announced plans to offer electric versions of all
Mercedes-Benz and Smart-brand vehicles by 2022.
German media reported
that Markus Schaefer, head of development at Daimler, said that the company
currently has no plans to develop the next-generation internal combustion
engine and is focusing on the development of new electric power systems.
Although the company is no longer investing in new internal combustion engine
engines, Schaefer noted that they will continue to improve certain components
to improve the performance of existing engines.
Daimler has invested a
lot of energy in the development of electric vehicles in recent times. With a
large commercial vehicle product line, Daimler has now launched a wide range of
electric models, from vans to small trucks, and even large trucks and buses.
The first electric model launched by Mercedes-Benz is the EQC electric SUV, and
EQB and EQS models will be introduced in the future. In addition, Smart has
also become a pure electric vehicle brand.
In addition, the
development time of recent generations of internal combustion engines has
become longer than before, and other factors may also reduce their investment
value. For example, some countries have already implemented a ban on gasoline
vehicles, and some have announced that they will ban the sale of new gasoline
and diesel-powered vehicles by 2040. This has also led auto companies such as
Volkswagen and Daimler to rethink their long-term strategies for powertrains.
